LOS ANGELES COUNTY – The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisors Kathryn Barger and Hilda L. Solis to help residents in the county’s unincorporated areas purchase home security systems with video doorbells which alert customers’ smart devices when activated.
Some L.A. County cities, including Arcadia, Duarte, Monterey Park, Commerce, La Cañada Flintridge, and Temple City, have successfully created innovative partnerships with Ring Home Security with subsidies for customers.
“With the recent surge in break-ins and the increasing need for law enforcement patrol, these public-private partnerships have track record of successfully reducing residential burglaries by more than 50 percent,” said Supervisor Barger. LAPD Captain Vito Palazzolo reports that their partnership with Ring resulted in a “55 percent drop in burglaries in the second half of 2015.” “This security technology can also serve as an investigative tool when criminal activity is caught by the cameras.”
The motion directs the Sheriff and the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs to engage affected local municipalities and Ring Smart Home Security to explore how the County can adopt a similar model for the county’s unincorporated areas, and report back to the Board in 90 days with their findings.
