This afternoon, Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement thanking Governor Gavin Newsom for proclaiming a state of emergency in Los Angeles County for the Bridge Fire:

“I appreciate Governor Newsom’s efforts to issue this emergency proclamation. By doing so, he’s rightfully elevating the urgency that’s needed to mobilize more resources so we can quickly and effectively combat this unpredictable wildfire and help survivors rebuild.

My heart goes out to everyone who has lost property or has been displaced by what is now the largest wildfire burning in the state. We still don’t have a clear understanding of the Bridge Fire’s impact, but undoubtedly there will be a need for support at many levels as our recovery efforts ramp up.”
