Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement after the Los Angeles County Fire Department announced the death of a firefighter from Station 93 who was responding to a vehicle fire at a quarry in Palmdale on Friday, June 14 in the afternoon.

“My heart is heavy to learn that one of our firefighters lost his life when responding to a call in Palmdale,” Barger said. “My deepest condolences to his family and the other firefighters at Station 93. It’s a sobering reminder of the dangers our first responders face every day. We owe them our steadfast support as they grapple with this loss. I’m committed to ensuring our Fire personnel are connected with needed mental health support as they grieve.”

The firefighter worked with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 19 years and was a husband and father.

Another firefighter who was on scene was transported to Antelope Valley Medical Center for minor injuries but is expected to fully recover and be released this evening.

The Board of Supervisors will direct flags to be lowered to half staff.
