Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement today, after her presentation of a scroll to the Korean American Foundation in honor of Korean American Day:

“Today, I’m proud to celebrate the remarkable impact of the Korean American community in Los Angeles County. This year marks the 121st anniversary of Korean American Day, honoring all the ways Korean Americans make our neighborhoods, businesses, schools, churches, and communities better.

There are nearly 2 million Korean Americans living in the United States, and we’re proud to be home to the highest concentration here in Los Angeles County.

For more than a century, Korean Americans have had a meaningful impact. Their contributions to food and music, for example, are deeply embedded in our daily culture through Korean barbecue and K-pop. Korean Americans have also made countless contributions that have led to innovation and progress.  A Korean American was the first to perform a beating heart operation for coronary artery heart disease.  Thank you to the Korean Americans—past and present—for all you have done to serve and strengthen our communities.”
