Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement this afternoon:
“SB 577 strikes an important balance: protecting survivors and strengthening oversight while providing greater clarity around the legal and financial responsibilities of public agencies. I thank Governor Newsom for signing this bill and the work that went into reaching a compromise that addresses both survivor concerns and the responsibilities of counties and other public entities.
The new prevention, training, and oversight requirements will also help ensure we are doing more to protect children from abuse and exploitation.”
