Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger brought holiday joy to hundreds of children and families on Saturday as she hosted her annual Foster Youth Holiday Celebration at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The long-standing event welcomed approximately 600 children in foster care and their caregivers, providing a festive day filled with rides, entertainment, meals, and a large toy giveaway.

“Every child deserves to experience the magic and warmth of the holiday season, especially those in our foster care system,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “This annual celebration is about creating joyful moments, easing stress for families, and reminding our foster youth that they are valued and deeply cared for by our community.”

The holiday event is made possible through a partnership with Six Flags Magic Mountain, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, ABC7’s Spark of Love Toy Drive, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Children and families were all smiles as they enjoyed visits with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, hands-on holiday crafts, meals and the opportunity to select free toys from hundreds of donated gifts.

“Today’s event really captures the magic, warmth and wonder of Christmas,” said Brandon T. Nichols, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. “It’s a day that lights up the hearts of everyone involved, spreading joy to children and families, and to all those who give so generously of themselves.”

Afterwards, the youth and their families gleefully walked through the gates welcoming them to Six Flags Magic Mountain, ready to enjoy the thrilling amusement park attractions.

“This holiday event reflects our shared commitment to giving back to the community and supporting children and families during a meaningful time of year,” said Raffi Kaprelyan, Senior Vice President and Regional General Manager of Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department assisted with the toy distribution, helping deliver gifts provided through the Spark of Love campaign.

The event also featured appearances by iconic Looney Tunes characters and a warm welcome from Saugus High School cheerleaders as families arrived at the park.

Supervisor Barger’s annual Foster Youth Holiday Celebration has become a cherished tradition, bringing together County departments, private partners, and volunteers with a shared goal of spreading hope, joy, and lasting holiday memories to children in foster care.
