Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger today announced that she has requested the Chair of the Board of Supervisors to lower County flags to half-staff in honor of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Levi Vargas, who passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 30.

Deputy Vargas served the residents of Los Angeles County with professionalism and an unwavering commitment to public service throughout his 13-year career. His passing is a profound loss for the Sheriff’s Department and the San Dimas community he faithfully served.

“Deputy Levi Vargas represented the best of public service,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “His dedication to protecting our communities and his compassion for others will not be forgotten. As we lower our flags today, we honor his life and his service. My heartfelt condolences are with his wife, family, and all who are grieving his loss.”

The County joins the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in mourning Deputy Vargas.

Once lowered, flags at all County facilities will remain at half-staff in tribute to Deputy Vargas’ life and service.
