The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors today unanimously passed a motion authored by Supervisor Kathryn Barger and co-authored by Supervisor Janice Hahn proclaiming April 2025 as Armenian History Month as one way to honor the rich cultural heritage, resilience, and significant contributions of the Armenian community.

The Board’s recognition of Armenian History Month provides a platform to remember the past and advocate for the future. April holds deep significance for many Armenians worldwide, marking the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and ongoing struggles such as the displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Artsakh.

“My district is home to the largest Armenian diaspora in the world,” said Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger. “Thousands of my constituents are proud members of the Armenian community, and I have seen firsthand how their culture, resilience, and values are deeply woven into the diverse fabric of Los Angeles County. Proclaiming April as Armenian History Month is not just about remembrance—it is also a celebration of the strength, contributions, and enduring impact of Armenians who continue to shape our region in meaningful ways.”

“Los Angeles County is home to a vibrant and resilient Armenian community, whose rich history, culture, and contributions continue to shape the fabric of our region,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn. “This month, we have a meaningful opportunity to honor that cultural heritage, celebrate the many achievements of Armenians within the County, and unite with local residents in solemn remembrance of the lives lost in the Armenian Genocide—a true testament to the strength and spirit of the Armenian people.”

Later this month, Supervisor Barger will recognize three outstanding members of the Armenian community during the Board of Supervisors Public Hearing meeting on April 29, 2025.
