As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, accompanied by dangerously hot temperatures and excessive heat warnings in portions of Los Angeles County’s Fifth District, Supervisor Kathryn Barger is reminding residents to do their part to lessen the threat of wildfires. She issued the following statement today:
“Summer heat is here and we all need to do our part to lessen the likelihood of wildfires. As temperatures soar, everyone should keep in mind that even the smallest firework spark or tossed cigarette butt can ignite a big wildfire and have disastrous consequences. Don’t put your family, neighbors, or community at risk. Play and relax responsibly and safely this Fourth of July holiday.
I also urge all residents who live in wildfire prone areas to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. The best way to stay safe is to sign up for your local emergency alert systems and listen to your local news broadcasts. If you receive an evacuation message from local law enforcement officials, follow their directions and don’t hesitate. Prioritize safety this holiday.”
