This week, the wheels on Los Angeles County’s Beach Bus service started rolling, shuttling beach goers four days a week from the Antelope Valley to Santa Monica Beach. The low cost summer-long service, coordinated by Los Angeles County Public Works, is now operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every weekend through Labor Day.
“I want Antelope Valley residents to enjoy and take full advantage of this reliable and affordable desert-to-beach bus service,” stated Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “Summers get very hot in the region, so the Beach Bus was designed to offer families, seniors, and the general public a low-cost way to get relief from the heat and have some fun. I fully support the County’s Beach Bus operation and am hopeful it will be used widely.”
Supervisor Barger contributes discretionary funding to support the Beach Bus operation.
In Lancaster, the Beach Bus departs from Sgt. Steve Owen Memorial Park, located at 43063 10th St W, Lancaster, CA 93534. In Palmdale, beach goers can board the Beach Bus at Palmdale Transportation Center, located at 39000 Clock Tower Plaza Drive, Palmdale, CA 93550.
The Beach Bus trek covers approximately 65 miles each way. Each round-trip ticket costs $6.00, while senior citizens (ages 60 and over) and persons with disabilities can ride for $2.00 each. Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Reservations are required to ensure seating availability as spots on the bus may run out.
