Flag football, girls lacrosse, and cheerleading offered at four local parks during fall season

As back-to-school season is in full swing across Los Angeles County, Supervisor Kathryn Barger wants families to know the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering affordable after-school youth sports programs in the Antelope Valley.

Registration is now open for the following sports programs at four Antelope Valley parks, with each program costing only $25:

  • Acton Park is offering flag football for boys, flag football for girls, and girls lacrosse
  • Pearblossom Park is offering flag football for boys and girls lacrosse
  • Stephen Sorensen Park is offering flag football for girls and girls lacrosse
  • George Lane Park is offering youth cheerleading, flag football for boys, flag football for girls, and girls lacrosse

The youth cheerleading program is open to youth between the ages of 4 to 17. The girls flag football program is for youth between the ages of 9 to 12.  The boys flag football program is for youth between the ages of 5 to 15 and is sponsored by the Los Angeles Rams, the County’s professional NFL team.

Girls lacrosse is available for youth between the ages of 10 to 12, and is offered in partnership with USA Lacrosse.

These programs cater to players of all skill levels. Participants will receive uniforms and trophies.

“My hope is that families take advantage of these accessible youth sports programs offered by Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “Many of my constituents are living in a tough economic climate, so I support the County offering affordable programs for youth that also support health, and that includes both physical and mental health. Enrolling in any of these programs is also an opportunity to make friends and connect with adult mentors. This is a win-win community resource.”

Families are encouraged to register their children early, as spots are limited and expected to fill up quickly. Some classes will run from September through November 2024, others from October through December 2024. To find classes, class schedules, and to register, go to bit.ly/3Me8npa.
