Barger Issues Statement on Recovery of Radiation Device Lost by L.A. County Public Works 1024 576 Supervisor Kathryn Barger

Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement this evening, reacting to the recovery of a radiation device lost by Los Angeles County’s Public Works last week.

The device was found by a Littlerock resident, who called the Supervisor’s main office telephone line to report having found the device. Public Works technicians performed diagnostic tests and have confirmed the device—which bears a tag with a serial number—was intact and functioning perfectly.

“I am pleased the lost tool was recovered. An individual contacted my office today to share that they had the gauge in their possession. I’m glad that my message to the community to do their part, be vigilant, and contact officials if found was heeded by the public.

It’s a big relief to know that no one was hurt by radiation sickness in the process of recovering it. However,  this cannot happen again. I am calling on Public Works to immediately report back to the Board with a Corrective Action Plan to ensure this type of risk to the public never materializes again.”
