Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger issued the following statement today after the Metro Board of Directors unanimously approved a $798 million funding agreement to construct the final portion of the Metro A Line (formerly Gold Line) light-rail to Montclair:

“Today, our Metro Board fulfilled its commitment to complete the Gold Line Foothill Extension to Montclair. This project will afford Claremont residents the mobility benefits other cities along the 210 corridor have been able to access for many years, connecting them to important cultural, recreational and educational assets. I couldn’t be prouder.

Getting to this point was truly a team effort. I want to thank my fellow Metro Board members and agency staff for their support and advocacy, especially directors Sandoval, Najarian, and Solis; our state legislative delegation for ensuring this critical funding was appropriated; the CA State Transportation Agency for their critical funding throughout the years; our Gold Line corridor cities; and last, but certainly not least, Gold Line CEO Habib Balien, Board Chair Ed Reece, his fellow board members and the Gold Line staff.”

The Los Angeles County portion of the extension will be completed through a funding agreement with the Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority. The extension will be funded through SB 125 transportation funds allocated to LA Metro and prioritized by the Metro Board.

Phase 2B1 of the Metro A Line (formerly Gold Line), which will extend the line to Pomona, is currently under construction and will be open to the public in 2025. The final portion of the project (Phase 2B2) will ultimately extend from Pomona to Montclair in San Bernardino County, including a station in Claremont.
