Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger joined local leaders, housing advocates, and veterans yesterday morning to celebrate the grand opening of Danny’s Home for Heroes, a 35-unit permanent supportive housing complex dedicated to formerly homeless veterans in the Antelope Valley.

Located at 4856 West Avenue L-14 in Quartz Hill, Danny’s Home for Heroes is a collaborative effort between private partners and public agencies to address the urgent need for veteran housing in Los Angeles County.

The project was spearheaded by Kingdom Development and Oculus1 Development, with support from multiple funding sources including the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), the California Department of Housing and Community Development, CalVet, R4 Capital, and Western Alliance Bank.

“This building is a shining example of the community stepping up to support veterans,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “As I’ve said before, we should never have to use the words ‘homeless’ and ‘veteran’ in the same sentence. Today’s celebration marks an important step toward making sure our veterans in the Antelope Valley are housed in a supportive and welcoming environment.”

Supervisor Barger presented a commemorative scroll to Richard Montes of Oculus1 Development and William Leach of Kingdom Development, recognizing their leadership and long-standing dedication to the project.

Danny’s Home for Heroes has been fully leased since January, offering formerly homeless veterans stable housing along with onsite supportive services. The project aligns with Supervisor Barger’s broader efforts to expand housing for vulnerable residents in the Antelope Valley.

Over the past five years, the Antelope Valley has added more than 440 supportive housing units and continues to build momentum. “Our veterans deserve much more than just thanks,” Barger added. “Community initiatives like Danny’s Home for Heroes show that real progress in battling the homelessness crisis is possible by leveraging the power of partnerships.”
