Barger Adjourns Board of Supervisors Meeting in Memory of LASD Deputy Daniel V. Chavira 717 894 Supervisor Kathryn Barger

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger today adjourned the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting in memory of Deputy Daniel V. Chavira, a young and dedicated member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department who tragically passed away from injuries sustained in a traffic collision on May 19. He was 21 years old.

“Deputy Daniel Chavira embodied service, dedication, and a deep commitment to community,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “He had already made a mark in the short time he wore the badge, and his loss is a devastating blow to his family, friends, and the entire Sheriff’s Department. His legacy of integrity and promise will not be forgotten.”

Deputy Chavira, born in Los Angeles and raised in the Antelope Valley, was a graduate of Lancaster High School where he earned a 4.0 GPA and expressed a strong calling to serve in law enforcement.

In October 2024, he graduated from the Sheriff’s Academy with Class 476 and was assigned to the North County Correctional Facility. He had just completed his custody assignment and was preparing to begin patrol training, with plans to serve at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station—a place close to his heart and family.

Deputy Chavira was the youngest of five siblings. He is survived by his father Rodrigo, a longtime employee of the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation; siblings Nancy, Rene, Rodrigo, and Bertha; and several family members proudly serving in the Sheriff’s Department.
