Altadena Sees Major Drop in Residential Burglaries; Sheriff’s Station Releases New Video Targeting Trespassing 1024 577 Supervisor Kathryn Barger

The Altadena Sheriff’s Station is proud to report a significant decline in residential burglaries and announced the release of a new public awareness video aimed at reducing trespassing in the community.

Thanks to a combination of proactive patrols, targeted investigations, and strong community partnerships, residential burglaries decreased by 28% in April compared to March. Preliminary figures for May show an additional 33% decline, underscoring the effectiveness of enhanced law enforcement strategies in the area.
“This is a direct result of the outstanding work by our deputies and the continued cooperation of the Altadena community,” said Acting Captain Ethan Marquez. “Our commitment to public safety is stronger than ever, and the results speak for themselves.”

In recent weeks, deputies have made a number of key arrests tied to a range of serious crimes, including burglary, carjacking, kidnapping, copper theft, and assault with a deadly weapon. In one incident, a burglary suspect was apprehended within minutes of deputies responding to an alarm call. In another, a damaged vehicle was spotted by a resource deputy driving erratically; the resulting vehicle pursuit led to the arrest of a suspect later identified in connection with a carjacking, kidnapping, and multiple burglaries. The victim’s vehicle was successfully recovered.

In a separate case, deputies conducting a home check through the AltadenaHomeCheck@lasd.org program discovered a break-in and arrested a burglary suspect inside the residence. A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Sylmar resident for copper theft. Additionally, an undercover deputy tracked a suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon, coordinating with marked units to secure an arrest without incident. In another incident, deputies interrupted an active vehicle theft and apprehended the suspect after a pursuit into Pasadena. Deputies also stopped two individuals during a traffic stop whose behavior prompted further investigation; stolen property from a recently burglarized Altadena home was discovered, and both individuals were arrested for residential burglary.

To further support crime prevention efforts, the Altadena Sheriff’s Station has released a new video focused on deterring trespassing. The video urges residents to take preventative measures such as installing fencing, posting clearly visible and illuminated “No Trespassing” signs, and completing a “Letter of Agency” authorizing law enforcement to act on their behalf. The station also encourages residents to remain active participants in community safety through programs like AltadenaHomeCheck@lasd.org and AltadenaTips@lasd.org.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger commended the station’s efforts, stating, “I deeply appreciate the hard work of the Altadena Sheriff’s Station and their continued attention to keeping our neighborhoods safe. Their commitment to proactive policing and community engagement is making a real difference.”

The recent reduction in crime is credited to several strategic initiatives. These include increased deployment of deputies across Altadena, the use of data-driven enforcement strategies, enhanced community patrols, and expanded public engagement.

Partnerships with the California Highway Patrol and local leaders have strengthened law enforcement coverage, while renewed efforts to revitalize the Block Captain/Neighborhood Watch program have fostered greater neighborhood involvement. Technological tools such as surveillance cameras and crime mapping systems have also played a key role in driving results.

“This is a team effort,” said Acting Captain Marquez. “Public safety depends on strong partnerships between law enforcement and the community. We thank our residents for staying vigilant and engaged.”

The Altadena Sheriff’s Station remains committed to community trust and public safety, and encourages residents to stay involved, attend regular townhalls, and follow the station’s updates online.
