Supervisor Barger is a champion of homelessness solutions. She believes offering housing options alongside supportive services are essential to helping people experiencing homelessness get off our streets. Supervisor Barger also believes homeless service systems must be held accountable to ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively and efficiently. She created the Blue Ribbon Commission on Homelessness to reassess and revamp how the County delivers its homelessness solutions.
Supervisor Barger’s policy work and voting record reflect her commitment to provide effective treatment for the County’s most vulnerable populations, including those who are homeless and have mental illnesses. She is leading local and national efforts to amend state and federal laws that impede offering mental health care at scale, including through her role as the Co-Chair for the National Association of Counties’ Commission on Mental Health and Wellbeing. With her support, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center recently debuted its Restorative Care Village. This project provides compassionate care for medically fragile, unhoused Los Angeles County residents as they recover post hospital discharge, and also offers in-patient and out-patient behavioral health treatment.
